A Message to Space
A lifetime partner connecting loved ones
Hyundai Motor’s New Thinking on Automobiles

The largest message of love on the planet, A Message To Space
Cars have now become a companion of your daily life, just like your family or your closest friend. What does a car mean to you, and what’s the value a car must give? Hyundai Motor’s <A Message to Space> began from this simple question. From being a means of transportation from point A to B, or from being a frosting on the cake of your social life, a car has now become a vehicle bringing you closer to your loved ones. Moving beyond, Hyundai Motor now wishes to become your lifetime partner, not only bringing you and your loved ones physically together, but also connecting emotional distances.
The most distant daughter and father far away from each other must be no other than Stephanie from Houston and her father, an astronaut working in outer space. Although impossible to be connected by car, Hyundai still believed we could bring them together, emotionally. So the biggest project of sending a daughter’s love to her father began, with eleven Hyudndai Genesis and a global team of technicians and film crews gathered in Delamar Dry Lake of Nevada.
Will Hyundai and Stephanie really be able to send the message to space?
Record of the project that seemed so impossible, Behind the Scenes
The mission granted to Hyundai and the team gathered from Europe, Korea and Los Angeles, was to draw a gigantic message on the ground, a message big enough to be seen from the space station. Ground at least 1.6 times bigger than New York Central Park and a perfect weather – no rain, no wind as any wind or rain will erase the message before it could even be read – were the ingredients needed for the project’s success. The team searched all over the U.S. to find a perfect place, which happened to be Delamar Dry Lake of Nevada, and studied the area more than three times before the shooting.
A rough sketch using GPS(Global Positioning System) took a couple of weeks to copy the exact handwriting of Stephanie’s hand-written message, and Hyundai went through a careful study of the land to choose the most perfect car with enough durability, agility and handling – the Genesis.
Skilled drivers of 11 Genesis copied Stephanie’s message on the ground of Delamar Dry Lake without a single mistake, and the entire process and the final message were recorded using diverse filming techniques.
