Deep in our hearts, we all have childlike spirits; yet we often become oblivious to the fact because we bind ourselves to the boundaries of maturity and are burdened by life. SUPERFLEX says that these “children” of our inner selves must be released. The exhibition <One Two Three Swing!>, which begins from swings and play that represent childlike spirits, suggests that these activities mark the beginning of experiences in which humans begin to take on social roles. As we interact with others through the act of play, we learn to cooperate and live in harmony with others, and thereby mature into members of the society that we belong to.

SUPERFLEX notes the essence of human societies in which “we are not alone, but together,” through this exhibition open for participation to people of all genders and ages. Moreover, the artist group offers the visitor experience from this exhibition as a “tool” to be used in the future—the vibrant energy that fills the exhibition hall is the engine with which we will tackle challenges of the future. Art does not draw boundaries nor sets limits to its expansion, extension, or the message it conveys. What message does SUPERFLEX intend to establish through its Turbine Hall exhibition? Join us in viewing the <HYUNDAI Meets Hyundai Commission 2017: SUPERFLEX: One Two Three Swing!> on video.

Hyundai Commission 2017: SUPERFLEX- One Two Three Swing! is open at Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall, from October 3, 2017 to April 2, 2018. After the exhibition of Abraham Cruzvillegas in 2015, this exhibition is the third of the Hyundai Commission series which innovatively gives a different look to the Turbine Hall once again. The Danish art trio SUPERFLEX, renowned for unifying urban spaces and making genuine social commentaries through art, utilizes even the exterior spaces of the Turbine Hall for the first time in Tate Modern’s exhibition history.

By doing so, the collective flawlessly connects the city and the gallery while emphasizing the role of exhibition spaces.
SUPERFLEX is also famous for its humorous yet subversive installations and films, and the trio has inarguably brilliant ideas. The fascinating works they have presented thus far only demonstrate a small part of SUPERFLEX’s artistic potential.

Over the years, SUPERFLEX has focused on themes including nationality, culture, status, and transforming regions or societies. The group offers its works as “tools” in order to encourage the public to offer their opinions and take on various roles. Another characteristic of their work is that its activities and forms change depending on the audience, society, and particular conditions of the region in which it is exhibited.

What kind of tool is SUPERFLEX’s Turbine Hall project and what message does the artists’ group offer? Find the answers at Hyundai Commission 2017: SUPERFLEX- One Two Three Swing!, an elaborately presented exhibition that encourages your participation with its installations, films and seminars.
